We all know that most celebrity marriages do not last, but we can be sure of one thing: stunning bridal gowns. And Elizabeth Taylor would have had quite a few! Here’s one of them…
The Hollywood darling was known for her many marriages but we will always remember her first with Conrad Nicky Hilton in 1950. Her satin gown was made with a romantic lace top and a beautiful sweeping skirt that looked divine on the then-18-year-old Elizabeth. The gown cost $1,500 which at that time was considered quite expensive.
I didn’t see this tv show the first time around, but it’s repeated on a Sunday at the moment. I think the idea of an arranged marriage is both strange to me as a Western raised person and also sensible… providing both families make a good choice for the Bride and Groom… and they have had the chance to meet in person and have a final say!
Most of all though I am amazed at all the incredible colourful fashion loaded with bling.
The one thing every human society has in common is marriage. However some societies have gross, confusing, terrifying, or any mixture of the three wedding traditions. Have a read of these strange wedding traditions…
Imagine the most disgusting things in the world. You got it? Now imagine all of your friends throwing those things at you, covering you in grossness, and then tying you to a tree. This is the typical pre-marital humiliation that Scottish brides endure in certain parts of the country. Supposedly if you can handle this you can handle anything, including marriage.
Helen of Sparta was perhaps the most inspired character in all literature, ancient or modern. A whole war, one which lasted for ten years, was fought over her. In Greek mythology Helen of Troy also known as Helen of Sparta, or simply Helen, was the daughter of Zeus and Leda. In Greek myths, she was considered the most beautiful woman in the world. By marriage she was Queen of Laconia, a province within Homeric Greece, the wife of King Menelaus. However, Paris, son of King Priam of Troy, fell in love with Helen and they launched an affair where she run away to Troy with him, starting the major war.

Gwen is known for her unique style. You can picture her wearing something bright and wild during her wedding but when she tied the knot the second time around with husband Gavin Rossdale. At the wedding, Gwen surprised people with her breathtaking white and pink gown. She wore a custom ombre John Galliano for Dior dress which looks so elegant and charming you can say it is a gown fit for a princess.
This episode of Friends was nailbiting at the time – especially if you always wanted Rachel and Ross to live happily ever after!
This would have to be the worst wedding day disaster! You could never come back from this could you?!
Do you have a wedding day disaster story you can look back and laugh about now? We’d love to hear it!!

In Ireland when the bride and groom are dancing the bride’s feet have to stay on the floor. The Irish believe that if they don’t, evil fairies will come and sweep her away. The logic? Evil fairies like beautiful things. The bride is beautiful. The fairies can only get to her if she is not touching the ground.
Thank you Mrs Gabriel for your review!
It was my absolute pleasure representing you on your big day – it was so much fun and your exchanges to each other were very touching x ????
