You’re going to have to buy New Idea to get all the goss.

All I can say is that this woman who was a skanky D-list celeb (only in NZ) has come out on top and unlike what I imagine her first wedding to weird multi-millionaire Eric Watson, this wedding looks lovely and she looks the most normal I’ve ever seen in the tabloids.

How cool is this wedding theme??!!

A Marvel Comic book is the inspiration for this real-life wedding. Back in 1992 Marvel made headlines by revealing that Northstar, an X-Men superhero, was gay. Twenty years later, the character was set to wed his longtime partner Kyle in Astonishing X-Men #51, in stores on June 20 2012.

As an X-Man, Northstar routinely fights against bigotry, as he is a mutant, and mutants are the most feared minority group in the Marvel Universe. Astonishing X-Men writer Marjorie Liu looked to Northstar’s relationship with Kyle as a way to write an inspiring story about characters who feel like outsiders even among outsiders. “Here are two people, trying to live their lives – mutant and gay, black and gay – empowered in their own ways, but also fringe-dwellers,” says Liu. “And they’re making it happen. They’re living life on their own terms. It doesn’t matter that it’s a superhero comic, the message is: You can do the same thing.”

And that is exactly what a real-life New York couple did – tying the knot in a famous comic book store. X-Men fans Scott Everhart and Jason Welker were selected from more than 50 applicants to get married in New York City’s Midtown Comics in honor of Astonishing X-Men #51 which features the wedding of Northstar to his boyfriend Kyle.lucky in love, marriage celebrant, auckland celebrant, weddings, matakana weddings, matakana celebrant, waiheke wedding, waiheke celebrant, kumeu celebrant, kumeu weddings, north shore celebrant, same sex marriage, gay friendly celebrant

When I married my cute couple on the weekend, when Chanel, our Bride held her hand out for the ring exchange I was really taken with her cool nail art.

Chanel got her cool nails done by Art of Nails in Albany. Not only did they do a creative job, they treated her and her bridal party like princesses – closing the shop exclusively for them and plying them with bubbly. What better way to celebrate your pre-wedding pamper session making for a really special girls day out!

Why I’m a Marriage Celebrant

I finally got around to reading one of the Dalai Lama’s books and just reading it gave me a sense of calmness. (I know that sounds dumb but it’s true!)

In comparison most of us can only hope to reach a minuscule state of serenity and level of happiness – but the point is to keep trying!

The book is based on interviews with His Holiness and goes like this:

Journalist: Let’s not talk about difficult things like nirvana or enlightenment. But what do you want to achieve?

The Dalai Lama: To be happy. My practise helps me lead a useful life. If I can give some short moment of happiness to others, then I feel that my life has achieved some purpose. This gives me deep mental satisfaction – this feeling always comes if you serve others. So, when I help others, I feel happy. For me, the most important thing is human compassion, a sense of caring for one another.

Then it dawned on me – this is why I became a Marriage Celebrant!! So I feel helpful to others (and hopefully add a little value for them during a major life event) and has the added bonus that it makes me happy! And it’s alot of fun, as you can see from this photo (taken after I performed my official duties, of course!)

What could be a more incredibly rewarding ‘job’ than this?!

Congratulations Mr & Mrs O’Connell!

My stunning couple had equally stunning weather for their wedding day at Castaways, on the cliff top with a majestic view of the expansive ocean.

Striking an incredible contrast with the blue backdrop of the sea were the glamorous bridesmaids dressed in strapless floor length gowns in the most vibrant shade of bright fuschia.

But no-one was more breathtaking than our Bride who had a timeless elegance in every way and her dapper Groom.

Most impressive was our Groom, who is a bit of a rough diamond – he wrote his own heartfelt vows and even managed to memorise most of them!

They are a match made in heaven as they say and they had an out of this world wedding day to start their married life off in style!

How much sex does it take to make a happy relationship?

I came across this research by the University of Toronto and thought it would make for good reading!

Obviously when you’re newlyweds still in the honeymoon phase I’m sure you’ll be having more sex than the recommended dose! ; )

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Hutchinson!

Look at this lovely couple! Aren’t they stunning!

Everything about Hugo and Shameen’s wedding ceremony was dreamy. Just watching their romantic wedding video I had a tear in my eye and it reminded me they had thought out every little detail to perfection. From the bridesmaids roman goddess gowns which suited the Ascension Vineyard ‘stately european’ setting to the Groom’s floral print tie it was all highly original.

The ceremony was conducted in the romantic vineyards under a pergola festooned with white rice paper lanterns. Our beautiful bride wore an elegant sparkly dress paired with a long flowing train. Her bouquet was white peonies with accents of soft pink. Very pretty!

After our happy couple were pronounced Husband and Wife they moved into the charming courtyard surrounded with pretty summer flowerbeds for drinks with their guests.

Wishing you a lifetime of happiness together Mr and Mrs Hutchinson. You make the loveliest couple! xx

Famous Screen Kisses ♥ The Notebook

As a Marriage Celebrant one of this most exciting parts for me is when I can say…

By the authority vested in me as a Marriage Celebrant appointed under the law of New Zealand…. I now pronounce you Husband and Wife/Marriage Partners!!

You may now kiss your beautiful Bride/Groom!!!

This is when all eyes are on you and the photographers camera is poised to capture that incredible moment when you share your first kiss as a married couple!

Of course, you’ll naturally have to practice a lot to get your technique just right… ; )
We don’t want a quick peck on the lips or lots of french kissing… so here’s some inspiration from the silver screen…

It goes without saying Ryan Gosling was going to make it into our list.
Voted Best Screen Kiss 2005. No wonder!

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Rihari! Emily and Simon were married in the stunning tropical hideaway Landsendt on a super sunny summers day.

Our beautiful Bride looked like a fairytale princess as she floated down the aisle toward her Prince Charming who was waiting at the altar (not too nervously!).

Someone who almost stole the show from Mum and Dad was their cute son complete with bow tie and suspenders! Followed by their two little girls in pretty tulle dresses.

Here are a few photos (which I photobombed of course!).

The Groom told me their wedding day coincides with Chinese New Year and is very auspicious – and I am sure this cute family will most definitely live happily ever after!
