You have to have some sort of candid photography to capture the fun at your wedding reception. And you know how much I love photobooths by the amount of pictures I’m always in!!!

If you have a budget photobooths are awesome – especially Kombi Photobooth!! However if you’re trying to save a bit of cash you can DIY your own photobooth.

For my wedding we got a polaroid camera and set up a privacy screen so people could pose for us. Guests had fun and we got some great pics. I’ve seen some weddings have photo walls where guests hang them up for everyone to view.

Some other ideas are to leave disposable cameras on every table at the reception, if you have kids at your wedding give them the task of of snapping guests, or download a wedding pic app where guests take photos on their phones then upload to your page so you can make sure you capture them all.

I also saw a cool fun photo prop package in Spotlight, you can make your own, I think and with a trip to the $2 you’ll be able to load up on funny glasses, tiaras, beards… the options are endless!!!

You’re going to have to buy New Idea to get all the goss.

All I can say is that this woman who was a skanky D-list celeb (only in NZ) has come out on top and unlike what I imagine her first wedding to weird multi-millionaire Eric Watson, this wedding looks lovely and she looks the most normal I’ve ever seen in the tabloids.

I’ve been trying to convince My Darling to get a tattoo on our ring fingers. Apparently it hurts like crazy so we’ve been too chicken.

But I have been doing my research and I love these designs.

Which is your favourite?

Celebrity Weddings ♥ Ellen & Portia

Back to daytime TV – don’t you love Ellen? She was funny in her 80s sitcom but this talkshow is much more entertaining. While I was watching it the other week I thought I’d look up Ellen’s wedding, which was a few years ago now.

This little recap she does is very funny. Such a shame Portia looks soooo skinny in such a glamorous dress.

But going back to Ellen’s summary, I think its a good reminder to keep a sense of humour – your wedding day is massive and even though it’s the happiest day of your life it can be a little overwhelming – so keep smiling while you make those happy memories.

Choosing your wedding flowers

There are so many pretty and stylish combinations of flowers you can use for your day it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming.

I used simple yet vibrant yellow and white daisies to decorate my date. These accent colours complemented my Tiffany Blue primary colour amazingly and the props and flowers just popped.

Recently I’ve seen some incredible floral arrangements – bright pink roses paired with gold glitter, soft white and pale pink peonies against flowing organza and orange and purple birds of paradise matched with vintage lace.

A local florist Blossom have some fantastic advice on their site and give you some ideas of flowers by season.

Happy Anniversary My Darling Husband!! xxx

This is a photo of the banner I organised as a surprise for My Darling on our wedding day! It flew over our beach ceremony just after we were pronounced Husband and Wife!

It was very cool!

When I’m conducting a ceremony and it comes to the conclusion – it always seems like it’s over all too quickly – such a beautiful occasion I want my Brides and Grooms to be in the moment as long as possible. Most Brides I know always look back and think ‘it all just went too fast’. With all the effort that goes into planning, the wedding day does seem to speed by, so here’s a few tips:

♥ Savour each and every moment planning your big day and don’t sweat the small stuff.

♥ Choose people to support you that you know you can count on to make your day a success – then you can simply turn up, relax and have fun!

♥ Pre-plan as much as possible, get your checklist ticked off sooner rather than later and don’t leave things to the last minute.

♥ Make sure you take time out to chill out with your loved one on regular date nights in the weeks leading up to your big day -no wedding talk allowed!

♥ Make it memorable, whether you hire aerial advertising like I did, dress your bridesmaids in contrasting striking colours or personalise your wedding favours beautifully – have at least one standout signature that will wow your guests.

♥ At your reception, steal a few moments alone with your partner – it’s all about you two!

Leap year proposals ♥ ladies pop the question

February 29th is the day women can ask men to marry them, and there is a great/bad romcom called Leap Year that is all about a Leap Year proposal

“I’m not going to die without getting engaged!” shrieks Amy Adams during a turbulent flight in the 2010 geographically challenged rom-com Leap Year. Adams’s character Anna follows her boyfriend (who hasn’t proposed yet) to a conference in Dublin, after her tipsy father tips her off about the Irish tradition of women proposing on leap year.

Due to bad weather, her plane is diverted to Wales where Anna then gets a ferry to Kerry where she meets the “lovable” Irish rogue Declan who ends up driving her to Dublin to catch her man in time for February 29th.

An Irish journalist who investigated the history of this odd Leap Year tradition is attributed to a deal that St Brigid of Kildare made with St Patrick in the fifth century. She contacted a number of social historians and folklore experts to confirm this, but no one could definitively tell her about any recorded references or proof of the origins of the tradition of women proposing on leap-year day.

However there was plenty of information about matchmaking and marriage in the archives, and also about the taunting of unmarried persons, whether male or female: it makes for uncomfortable reading at times, she said.

Even if you do like quirky traditions, any time of the year women have just as much right to propose as a man. If it is an equal relationship, there should be no problem with a woman proposing marriage.

Vintage Wedding Dress ♥ L.A. Frock Stars

Have you seen that fabulous reality show L.A. Frock Stars about The Way We Wore, the high-end vintage second hand designer dress shop yet?

It’s pretty mesmerising looking at all the gorgeous Dior, Alexander McQueen and Chanel getting a chance at a second life.

They get a few Brides shopping for a unique ‘wedding dress’. How cool! There was an episode where a Bride who was getting married in Spain chose a black mirrored glass embellished cocktail dress – but I loved this episode where a Bride has had a dress disaster and needs a back up – three days before her big day!!

What she chose was probably so much better than what she originally planned!
