To Elope, or not to elope…

My cute Irish hair colourist (who obviously lives in NZ) got engaged recently to a kiwi bloke. Her dream wedding would be set back in her home country in the Dublin hills with a cosy, quirky winter vibe. However, they have a small family of three young boys which already makes the travel costs alone super expensive. Plus travelling back to Ireland would mean a big cost to her fiance’s family and all their NZ friends. So what does she do??

Well, she’s thinking of a simple elopement – just the two of them, leaving the kids at home! That way no one family gets upset or has to budget more than the other – plus they get to put their money towards a well deserved romantic mini break! I love it! (Even though I would love to be their Celebrant, it makes alot of sense.) And save the huge expense for other important things that matter. And then, just have a big BYO party for friends and family next time you’re all together!

When I was googling ideas on eloping – it seemed eloping was a whole new level of wedding planning. I’m a bit confused – I thought eloping was meant to make it easier so you could just focus on the two of you?! So I would say if you choose to elope stick to simple and make it a celebration of your love story – otherwise you may as well have the whole shebang!

Here’s a site with some good tips from Brides.com

On a community facebook page someone recently asked if having their wedding during the week was a good idea because they didn’t feel they could ask their guests to have a day off work. Here are some of the comments:
My comment was: “I’ve married people on all weekdays! It’s a great excuse for your guests to have a day (or two) off work! Your chosen venue will be much less busy if you are getting married in a public setting and if you’re hiring a venue weekdays are quieter and the venue team will be more focussed on you plus fees are generally more economical weekdays v Fri, Sat, Sun!”
“Usually a cheaper option for you and less busy and the important people will make the time.”
“Screw your guests the presents are never worth more than what they’ll eat and drink anyway …I recommend gapping it and spending the 10/15G the wedding will cost on a holiday.”
“I’ve learnt, when it comes to your wedding always do what is best for you (the bride and groom). It’s no one else’s day but yours – so just do at works for you? plus it’s amazing how many people will welcome a long weekend”
“I got married on a Wednesday. It meant not as many people on the beach 🙂 It was also cheaper.”

“Say it. Write it. Share it.”
He’s the newest kind of poet — an online poet. With almost 300k followers and growing, it’s no surprise he’s quickly becoming a household name. Even celebrities like Nina Dobrev and Diane Kruger have re-posted some of their favorite pieces of his.
The passion that comes through his writing tells not only of romantic love, but is also drenched in his child-like fascination of the world that surrounds him (and all of us).
What springs to mind is a sort of combo of idealistic Beat Gen, romanticism of John Keats and the talent and boyish charm of Rupert Brooke.
This poet is one cool guy and the presentation of his words are works of art.
Now… who is the person who inspires this beautiful magic?

It’s not hard to see why these two beautiful people met and fell in love. Though The Green Lantern flopped at the box office, love triumphed. Blake and Ryan were married in 2012 and welcomed a daughter named James in December 2014.

Strange Wedding Traditions

The one thing every human society has in common is marriage. However some societies have gross, confusing, terrifying, or any mixture of the three wedding traditions. Have a read of these strange wedding traditions…

In some parts of India the groom is required to take off his shoes before approaching the wedding altar. As soon as he does this mayhem ensues. Everyone from the bride’s side of the family tries to steal them while everyone from the groom’s side of the family tries to protect them. If the bride’s family succeeds in their endeavor, then they are allowed to hold the shoes hostage until they get paid a ransom.

Celebrity Wedding Gowns ♥ Ellen & Portia

When they were married in 2008, Portia wore a beautiful dramatic backless gown that was designed by Zac Posen. The gown had a ballerina-inspired pale pink tulle skirt and fit her absolutely perfectly. Her bride Ellen opted to wear a perfectly tailored pant suit to the momentous occasion. Both ladies look great but Portia is absolutely stunning (even though she is too skinny).

The Lighting. No one wants to sit under fluorescent lighting at a wedding reception (we get enough of that in our work cubicles, right?), but you also don’t want a space that is so dimly lit that guests are in danger of injuring themselves. Lighting might seem as easy as having a good dimmer or hanging some pretty white lights around the room, but there is actually an art to this. And be careful of candles – make sure they are firmly secured and no where near where guests or bridal party risk catching their floaty party dresses on.
